Three key walking spots along the South Coast are now safer and more stable thanks to a big autumn effort by a team of Support Volunteers. Across three separate six-day campaigns, 20 volunteers rolled up their sleeves to install nearly five tonnes of track stabilisation materials at Boat Harbour, Parry Beach, and Rame Head.

Volunteers visited Sandpatch last week to install some weather-proofing “fixes” to make the shelter more watertight. Eave panels have been fitted around the shelter and a jarrah bead  installed to collect condensation, while a future upgrade will fill in the window. It’s National Volunteer Week, and we are celebrating the impact of volunteers on communities and the engagement with community fostered by being a volunteer. In this article, we’re shining a spotlight on the volunteers in the Track towns, where the local community and the walker community intersect!

This was the annual Field Day for Track maintenance volunteers for Donnelly District.

While the powerline was a convenient route between Mt Cooke and Nerang when the Track was first built, it has become an unwelcome, slippery section in recent years.

National Volunteer Week this year (May 19-25) acknowledges the connection within and between communities – the impact of volunteers on communities and the engagement with community fostered by being a volunteer. We’ll be thanking all volunteers during National Volunteer Week. You can join in!

Our Track maintenance Field Days have just kicked off for the year, with working bees at West Cape Howe and Boat Harbour campsites on the weekend.

SV’s visited Wellington District this week to inspect three 6m kit-bridges, no longer on the current Bibbulmun Track alignment. The plan is for volunteers to dismantle the bridges so they can be reused along the current alignment where old timber bridges are failing.

The vodcast, “Blood, Sweat & Needles!”, and Justin Karcher’s upcoming 1000km Bibbulmun Track End-to-End will  raise awareness and funds to primarily go towards research for a cure for T1D. 10% of the money we raise will be given back to The Bibbulmun Track Foundation to maintain and preserve the track!

In celebration of International Volunteer Day on December 5th, the Bibbulmun Track Foundation would like to express our heartfelt gratitude to our incredible network of volunteers, both near and far, who consistently go above and beyond to support our work.

In the latest episode of Going Places with Ernie Dingo, airing on SBS On Demand for Season 6, Episode 5, Ernie explores one of the country’s most cherished natural landscapes: the Bibbulmun Track. This episode is the final segment of three, which takes viewers on a spectacular journey through the South West of Western Australia.

This October, 356 participants took part in the Outdoors October Virtual Hike Challenge, logging an impressive 63,000+ kilometers—over 1.5 times the Earth’s circumference!

Seven Bibbulmun Track locations were improved this year by the work of BTF volunteers at our regular maintenance ‘Field Days’.

Last Thursday, the Inglewood Bowling and Sports Club hosted a delightful evening, as The Foundation partnered with Birdlife Australia to celebrate all things birds!

Last Saturday, sectional volunteers on the Creek Rd to Boxhall Rd section of the Track replaced two sets of steps along their section.

ABC Backroads recently concluded filming, with the iconic Bibbulmun Track poised to take center stage in 2025.

With the end of #OutdoorsOctober approaching, the Foundation in partnership with Outdoors WA – OWA would like to extend our congratulations to the teams who have completed the Bibbulmun Track Outdoors October Virtual Hike Challenge.

Local organization Buddiup have joined the Track maintenance effort, taking on the section between Hewetts Hill campsite and the Golden View lookout at South Ledge.

In early October a team of Support Volunteers visited the Track in Frankland District between Conspicuous Cliffs and Parry Beach.  

BoorYul-Bah-Bilya is an exciting new initiative developed by Bibbul Ngarma Aboriginal Association that aims to address the global issue of declining river health by creating a new type of community catchment plan for rivers.
