Today we walk approximately 17km return from the Brookton Hwy to Canning Campsite.
The campsite is named so due to its proximity to the upper reaches of the Canning River.
A highlight of today’s walk is Abyssinia Rock. The Track passes the base of it this massive granite outcrop. Take the opportunity to go up to the low but still worthwhile peak.
Canning Campsite has picnic tables, a typical Bibbulmun Track shelter, water tank and a bush toilet (byo toilet paper!).
Please note this walk was originally scheduled for June 21st and therefore the date differs from that published in the member’s magazine, Bibbulmun News. Please also note that this is one of two different walks starting from the same location. Be sure to book the correct one.
If you choose to make a booking, you agree that you and anyone you are booking for will not attend the event if in the last 14 days you or they have:
- been unwell
- had contact with a known or suspected case of COVID-19
- respiratory symptoms (even if mild)
- a fever, cough, sore throat and/or shortness of breath
- Your Event Guide/s:
Hello! I am a retired “ex-schoolie” who was introduced to the Track in 2003 and have been volunteering with the BTF since 2004. Starting as a maintenance volunteer for Canning campsite, I became a volunteer guide and an office volunteer. I have completed five end-to-ends, including the first registered “double e-e”. Whether it’s planning a walk, cleaning ‘my’ campsite, pruning track-side vegetation, carrying my pack on Track, or simply sitting around a campfire chatting to other walkers, I love all aspects of “Bibbulmun Therapy”!
Hi there. Some of you might know by my end-to-end Track name - Me & Gryglies Bear. I have been a member since 2005 and volunteer in the BTF office. I love to share my experiences so i am also a volunteer guide. Come walk with me!
