General Comments

This was a very last minute Covid trip which arose from not being able to go to Nepal to complete the Great Himalayan Trail. It absolutely surpassed my expectations, taught me so much more about my capabilities, and gave me a deeper appreciation of the stunning natural beauty of southern WA. This is truly a world class hike which I’ve continued to revisit many times after completion. and its free

Food/Supplies Comments

While nutrition is important, don’t overthink it. Eat the foods you know you enjoy. I was no stranger to Jatz and Nutella for breakfast! Mix it up. Resupply in towns when you can. You can do things on the cheap too. Deb and tuna is the dinner of champions smile

Favourite Section

Walpole to Albany. I took my time to soak in shear the shear energy and beauty of the southern ocean after a loooong time in the forests.

Highlights

The serendipity of the experiences I had, and the special souls i met.

Wildlife

I saw everything except an emu!

Your Best Equipment

Jet boil - worth every cent! I don’t get Trangia’s, sorry.

Toe socks are the answer to blister-free hiking.

My electric blue fishing shirt which I literally wore every day. Better than any hiking shirt I’ve owned as it was super light and quick drying.

Your Worst Equipment

An expensive inflatable pillow which I panic bought. Try before you buy.

Advice for Others

Enjoy every moment. Even when your body is aching and the weather sucks, you are fortunate to be in a position in your life where you can be out there doing something like that. You are capable of way more than you think you are, so test yourself.
Be self-sufficient -  you should not create a burden on other walkers because of a lack of preparedness.
Ask someone if you snore. If you do, pitch your tent outside the hut.
