General Comments
Over eight years, we found the Track to be full of surprises relating to the country side, rock formations, and of course at this time of year the magnificent wildflowers. People we met on the Track were very helpful to assist with new innovations and ideas plus general good will for fellow walkers.
Food/Supplies Comments
We managed to pre-dry our food from home before the walks.
This time we experimented with the Back Country packs as well.
Can’t really comment on food supplies in towns as we never used them but other supplies were available at most towns we visited. Every place we stayed at on the journey were more than happy to receive our food drops and provided good accommodation for our brief stays.
Favourite Section
Difficult question, every section had its highlights. if I were to pick a section though it would be the south coast from Denmark to Albany with the beach walks and rugged cliff looking out to the Southern Ocean.
Highlights
Finally starting at Kalamunda and finishing at Albany southern terminus.
Personal Reactions
I think the Track offers different opportunities for everyone and for me it was getting away from the noise and clutter of life to live a pretty basic lifestyle with everything on your back that you might need to survive. Also time to contemplate.
Wildlife
The last section we did recently provided lots of wild life, wallabies , kangaroos, magnificent bird life including the carnaby and red tailed black cockatoos in the forest for most of the trip south.
Your Best Equipment
Best equipment for us would have to be the walking poles, especially when coming down steep slopes and assisting with taking most of the weight when descending. Saves the knees big time.
Your Worst Equipment
After walking the Track with the same pack, I would have to say that was my biggest bugbear because of its weight alone.
There are much better more technical packs available now and that would be something to look for next.
Advice for Others
Enjoy the Track and what it has to offer. Smell the bush and enjoy the freedom it offers for the short time we traverse it.
