General Comments
Great experience - I was fortunate to have 8 weeks leave to walk the Track and came home fitter, lighter and more confident (though probably 3cm shorter!). Thank you to anyone involved with planning the route, creating the Track and maintaining it - it is such a great resource for WA and Australia.
Food/Supplies Comments
I dehydrated food and mailed it to post offices-the supplies in some ‘track towns’ were not always good or reliable. Hard boiled eggs and dried fruit worked well also.
Favourite Section
The first 10km from Kalamunda and last week to Albany along the ocean, though all sections had their own beauty, even the recently burned areas with the regrowth.
Highlights
Meeting people on the Track, swapping stories and seeing the gear everyone had - especially the end to enders. Each had a different reason for walking, experiences and reactions and all friendly, charming and open. Reading the Track logs and red books were fun.
Also catching up with people that you have been following or people that have been following you.
Personal Reactions
Wow, did I really do that!
Wildlife
The bird life-the ever present calls and colours, so varied and many different from ones seen in Queensland.
Your Best Equipment
I used everything except the PLB and roller bandages for snake bites. The gaiters (which I had bought for the walk and cost me $20) were great for peace of mind in the southern snake country. Used lots of Fixamull tape.
Your Worst Equipment
My boots were great until they got wet on week 2 and then shredded my feet, so new boots in Collie!
Advice for Others
Take one day at a time and don’t rush to complete the walk, if I can do it anyone can!
