General Comments

We had a variety of weather but have never seen so much water on the Track. Glad we took 60 days to do it and stayed in some towns a third night.

Food/Supplies Comments

Dehydrated all our food before we left. None went off and one of my favourites was the dehydrated hommus for lunch everyday. Ate SO much licorice but the highlight was having German cheesecake from the Juicy Beetroot Cafe in Freo brought to us at Brookton Campsite. All the towns had good supplies and with all the pigging out, we both lost weight.

Favourite Section

None really, loved it all as usual even with all the water on the Track which made it a very different experience.

Highlights

Rest day at Mt Wells, walking into DRV, icecream at Sullivan Rock, the mist surrounding the peaks around Mt Cuthbert and Mt Vincent, rescuing an injured owl on the Pingerup Plains and handing it over to pig shooters from Collie to take care of it, typing up the last day of Track notes after walking into Albany, the squillions of mosquito and helmet orchids between DRV and Pemberton. Reading the stories in the red registers.

Personal Reactions

Just a big thank you to everyone that supported us on the walk, the many Foundation volunteers, DPaW district and Rec and Trail Unit staff, friends and family. We had some heavy equipment to carry to help us re-write the guidebooks so having about 29 food drops made the job much much easier.

Wildlife

I think most were also trying to keep warm so staying out of sight. But still plenty of roos, wallabies, the occasional snake between Walpole and Albany and so many birds. Also a quokka, quenda, bats, owl, bob tails, fox, but no pigs or cats.

Your Best Equipment

Most of it - all tried and tested.

Your Worst Equipment

Socks I burnt on the fire

Advice for Others

Do your planning and get a trip planning advice session with the Foundation. Met a few people out there that didn’t and they ran into all sorts of challenges they didn’t have to. Also do it with someone you know well. Oh and pack some extra surprise treats into your food drops. Take your time, don’t rush it.
