How To: Go From Track Appreciator to Track Supporter

What do you experience when you spend time on the Bibbulmun Track?

The rhythm of your footsteps through jarrah forest? The quiet moments at a shelter at dusk? The feeling of moving in concert with landscapes that are, in many places, still wonderfully wild?

At first, you’re simply experiencing it — a day walk here, a weekend there, maybe even a journey between Track towns. Perhaps you’ve dreamed of an End-to-End, or even completed one. Maybe you’ve walked the same favourite sections over and over, or maybe these days you experience hiking mostly through memories, stories and photographs.

Perhaps you’ve noticed that something else has emerged alongside those experiences; a sense of connection, belonging, or ownership.

You might find yourself wondering, in one of those quieter moments: How did this come to be? And what keeps it going?

Because the Track doesn’t look after itself. It’s ours, in its raw simplicity and wild beauty, because of the steady, ongoing work of people who believe it’s worth looking after.

Why Support Matters

The Bibbulmun Track exists thanks to decades of care, advocacy and back-breaking physical labour. Behind every trail marker, every path, every shelter and water tank, there’s a community working together to make it possible.

Like many not-for-profit organisations, the Foundation relies on people who step up from appreciation and into action.

1. Donate: Small Contributions, Lasting Impact

One of the simplest ways to tangibly support the Track is through a donation.

Whether it’s a one-off gift or a regular contribution, donations help fund essential work like:

  • Track maintenance and repairs
  • Shelter and campsite upkeep
  • Environmental protection and rehabilitation
  • Volunteer support and training

Regular giving, in particular, can be powerful. Monthly contributions can be more manageable individually, but they add up to meaningful, sustained impact over time.

$1 for every kilometre you walked

We’re inviting you to support the Track using a simple guide; consider donating $1 for each kilometre walked:

  • $20 for 20km
  • $50 for a 50km
  • $100 for 100km
  • made it all the way to the end? Just $1 for every kilometre of Track you walked on your journey would be $1,000 (approximately, but who’s counting?)

$10 for each hut stay

Each hut stay helps shape the Bibbulmun Track experience.

  • $10 per hut supports ongoing maintenance, repairs, and essential upkeep of these remote shelters.

These are guides only, but every kilometre walked translates into impact behind the scenes: track maintenance, boardwalk repairs, erosion control, signage, and keeping huts safe and welcoming.

Donating to the Bibbulmun Track Foundation is a practical way to stay connected to the Track, even when you’re not out walking it.

2. Volunteer: Hands-On Care for the Track

Over 400 volunteers help care for the Bibbulmun Track every year.

If you’ve ever wondered who clears fallen trees, maintains campsites or checks signage – the Foundation is proud to support over 400 volunteers who help maintain the Track alongside the Department of Biodiversity, Conservation and Attraction’s Parks and Wildlife Service.

Volunteering with the Bibbulmun Track Foundation is one of the most direct and rewarding ways to give back.

Opportunities range from:

  • Track maintenance trips
  • Campsite and infrastructure work
  • Office and administrative support
  • Event assistance and community engagement
  • Project-based tasks making use of your particular skills

Like many non-profit groups, the strength of the community lies in its diversity. People of all ages, backgrounds and skill levels contribute, united by a shared care for the landscape.

You don’t need to be an expert, just willing to lend a hand.

3. Become a Member: Join the Community Behind the Track

Membership is about more than discounts and special events – it’s about advocacy and belonging.

When you become a member of the Bibbulmun Track Foundation, you help sustain the long-term future of the Track by joining a community that values connection, conservation and a shared experience. You’re adding your voice to a chorus of people who believe that the Track is important and worth protecting.

Membership supports:

  • Ongoing conservation efforts
  • Advocacy for the Track and surrounding landscapes
  • Education and awareness programs
  • Publications and resources that keep the community informed

It also keeps you connected through regular updates about things affecting the Track and its surrounds, events, or stories from a global community of hikers.

4. Advocate: Use Your Voice

Supporting the Track doesn’t always require time on the ground or financial contributions.

Being a Bibb Track advocate might look like:

  • Sharing your experiences with others by taking someone out on their first hike
  • Encouraging responsible walking practices
  • Supporting conservation initiatives
  • Speaking up for the protection of natural landscapes
  • Encouraging other people to support the Track in the ways that they are able to

Conservation outcomes are often shaped by community voices. When people show they care, decision-makers listen.

Every Step Counts

Not everyone will volunteer. Not everyone can donate regularly. Not everyone becomes a member straight away.

That’s okay.

What matters is that the Track continues to be supported by people who value what it offers — not just as a walking experience to be enjoyed for free and then forgotten, but as a living, cared-for landscape.

Many supporters start the same way: as walkers who simply loved being out there.

Over time, that appreciation grows into something more enduring.

A choice to care for the Track, just as it has quietly cared for so many who walk it.
