Your Story or Advice for Others
General CommentsI had walked back and forth over the first 12 huts for over 20 years , but had never thought Id be able to complete an E2E. But, planned it out , worked out what some of my doubts and barriers were and worked through them over a couple of years as son finished school and my LSL came due. Im a plodder, so it was a slow schedule of 62 days including rest days, but that pace was probably a contributing factor in my being able to do the trek.
Your Best Equipment
Awesome supportive husband - who booked great town accommodation, walked in and out of access points with food and helped me do some legs with day pack. And double socks
Your Worst Equipment
Noisy sleeping mat and painful hiking boots that worked in lead up but just simply hurt when walking day after day . Took a massive risk and swapped to new boots at Collie. Toe socks and outer and taping feet meant not one blister from hiking
Advice for Others
Work out what your barriers are and think about how you can address them. I went on several shake out hikes and learnt a lot. Having a friend join me on the difficult roller coaster also helped in getting through that section. It was lovely meeting many other hikers too and making new friends.
