Your Story or Advice for Others
General CommentsAfter 4 visits, 51 days on the trail, 41 overnights in huts, 19 of those alone, I have finally finished every cm of this extraordinary walk. Infinite gratitude to track angels, collies and kindred spirits met along the way.
Your Best Equipment
Sea to Summit -1 degree sleeping bag and MSR Windburner cooker
Your Worst Equipment
Nothing really - I was pretty ruthless about what I took
Advice for Others
Go as light as you can and think about whether you ‘really need’ things. Careful choices about your grams will increase your chances of success.

Your Experience
- Availability of information: Fair - Reroutes and diversions can be an issue. People need to feel confident and trust that a diversion is actually required otherwise they will start to ignore them. We did several that in hindsight weren’t needed.
- Amount of Wildlife Encountered: Good - Black cockatoos were a favourite
Walpole to Albany
Highlight of your trip
The huts and infrastructure are exceptional! Really loved the rammed earth design
