Track Towns and Supplies
- Did you have any issues finding food/supplies? Yes
- We used the Australia Post Sachets to send most of our food and spare supplies to the Visitor Centres in the major towns and then just topped up when we got there. Were very impressed so many of the VICs had dehydrated food and gas available.
Your Story or Advice for Others
General CommentsCarol and I love long distance walks and the Bibbulmun and Heysen trails are two of the best for very different reasons. So lots of walking (42 days) with great facilities, caring volunteers, and lovely towns to explore (9 rest days), especially if you are from interstate, makes for a great 51 day adventure
Your Best Equipment
My best gear is my Osprey Exos 58L pack at just 1.1kg. and my Altra Lone Peak trail runners.
Your Worst Equipment
With many long walks under my belt my gear is pretty good and light, however sometimes ultralight can mean not rugged enough as we found with our Sleeping Mats. Also an MSR Freelite tent that loves condensation!
Advice for Others
Walk at your own pace, be flexible, and enjoy the tranquillity of the bush. Take some rest days along the way, we stayed 2 nights in all the towns. Be prepared for all sorts of weather and those little emergencies that can occur on long distance walks and you will have a great time! If you have the time walk it end to end. Also if you need to leave a car at Albany I thoroughly recommend Peter at Albany Caravan and Boat storage.
