Donnelly River Village

Donnelly River Village is a historic mill town nestled deep in the heart of Australia's South West karri forests, it's the perfect place for a unique escape from the hussles and hassles of modern life. A short drive to Bridgetown, Nannup and Manjimup, and within an hour's drive of the Margaret River Wine Region, the village is a great base from which to explore Australia's South West.

Built in the 1950s for the Bunnings Brothers, the thirty-five workers cottages, boarding house and club overlook the original steam mill, school (now a bunk-house for Bibbulmun hikers), butcher shop (now a school-holidays screening theatre) and general store (now a café, social gathering place, and store for Donnelly guests).

The village has its own forest swimming lake, oval, tennis, basketball and beach-volley ball courts and an awesome 50m flying fox that's a favourite with the kids. The tame kangaroos, emus, possums, kookaburras, magpies, parrots, blue wren and other wildlife that wander through the village and visit cottages are one of Donnelly's most memorable charms.

Affordable self-contained cottages are perfect for couples, families and groups large and small looking for that special break.  Most cottages have 2 bedrooms and one or two sleep-outs, sleeping 6 or 8, with some accommodating up to 12, plus lounge, kitchen, bathroom and toilet. While the cottages have been upgraded over the years to meet current standards and expectations, much about the dwellings remains largely unchanged, which is part of their charm. Alongside microwaves & electric ovens, original Metters wood stoves in the kitchens and log fires in the lounge makes for hands on cosy comfort in the chilly months.

A hire service for linen is available (with prior booking) and will be delivered to your cottage, otherwise you need to bring sheets, doonas, blankets, pillowslips and towels for your stay.

Cutlery, crockery & cooking utensils are provided.

THE GENERAL STORE
The general store is a lovely part of the Donnelly experience. It operates 7 days, 8.30am - 5pm, offering '5 Senses' coffee, homemade cakes, basic groceries, local giftware, feed for hand feeding the kangaroos, emus, parrots and possums, and 50cent bags of sweets for the kids to hand feed themselves.
