Booking Form

Today we walk approximately 17km return from the Brookton Hwy to Canning Campsite.

The campsite is named so due to its proximity to the upper reaches of the Canning River.

A highlight of today’s walk is Abyssinia Rock. The Track passes the base of it this massive granite outcrop. Take the opportunity to go up to the low but still worthwhile peak.

Canning Campsite has picnic tables, a typical Bibbulmun Track shelter, water tank and a bush toilet (byo toilet paper!).

During the week a mild mannered public servant who will take any opportunity to get out on the Track, it’s a far better existence than my previous life sent deep under the Worlds Oceans - the scenery not great!! I have been walking the Track now for 15 years and have completed a sectional end to end a few years ago I also am a maintenance volunteer for the Mt Cuthbert and Mt Vincent sections.

My acquaintance with the Bibbulmun Track goes back to the mid 1980s. We walked most of the old alignment. On blistered feet and aching legs we learnt valuable early lessons about hiking. The children came along and my walking adventures adapted to suit their little legs. As they have moved onto their own adventures I found more time to return to my own, including walking the Bibb Track. The Bibb Track really is a world class asset. People from all over the world come here to walk it. I know. I have spoken with many out on the Track. I am keen, as a Bibb Track vollie, to share some of my passion, knowledge and skills with others who can then enjoy our wilderness for themselves and in turn share it with others.
