Do you have little or no direction in your life? Do you really know how to use a compass?

Steve will guide you through a series of practical and theoretical exercises on and near the Track in Mundaring.

Get Lost with Steve and you will have fun learning and perfecting basic map reading and compass skills.

Steve is a great teacher and made sure we were keeping up with his lessons. He makes me laugh and did not make me feel silly if I didn't understand straight away. Jane

Own navigation compass required. Involves approx 7km walking on and off tracks.

A well run event, where there was no real danger of getting lost thanks to the unobtrusive help of Steve and the volunteers. We were given enough latitude to figure things out for ourselves, and that provided for a sense of accomplishment. Beverley – event participant

Such a course should be a pre-requisite for individuals attempting the Track. – Ken

For the next level up in navigation, see the Get Found With Steve (usually held in June each year).

Just a brilliant fun day with Steve teaching us theory then having us outside to practise in the bush was so thrilling to find our given target and confidence gaining. Thank you - Christine

Includes morning tea and Track map. BYO lunch.

Great course, knowledgeable instructors. I enjoyed the day and now have more confidence of heading into the bush with a map and compass – Vince

Pitched at just the right level to somehow accommodate everyone who was there with varying skills. Incredibly well organised down to the last pencil. Clear explanations, excellent practice exercises carefully graded to have increasing complexity. Individual help when we ran into difficulties. Fun. Warm sense of humour, welcoming and very experienced. Wonderful, don't change anything! Kirsty  (event participant)

The whole course was efficiently and professionally run, without losing a relaxing feel. We had a thoroughly enjoyable day, met many new friends and I feel confident in the use of a compass. Thank you all for a wonderful day! Barry and Ruth

Keep up the good work guys I have not ever been to an organised BTF event that wasn’t well worth the doing and I would and do recommend it to people I know - Glen

I choose to hike solo and my main fear is getting lost, I even felt anxious on the way to the seminar as I hadn't been there before, it was one of the volunteers that instantly made me feel relaxed and said "Well you passed the first step" which I chuckled at and felt welcomed. There was a moment when I couldn't understand how to do a bearing and almost gave up, unknowingly to Steve because of his patience explaining how do work a bearing out I felt more confident, hence I finished the day. I totally enjoyed the day and now that I know how to read a map and use a compass. In my opinion if people want to learn how to read a map and use a compass this course is the way to go. Kerrie, 2021.

Hi folks. I have been with the Foundation since 1997, when I first joined as a member and maintenance volunteer. I wanted to get involved in the 'new' Track after getting terribly lost on the 'old' Bibbulmun Track. From there I began leading walks and then came on staff in the office in 1999 as Events Manager and Lead Guide. I love walking and have done a few end-to-ends. I really get a kick out of sharing this passion with everyone. I am still a volunteer and look after Nerang Campsite. Come and join me on this event!

Hi! I’ve been walking the Track since the late 90’s, and like many, started slowly along the big hill curve of learning. A warning: the Bib is addictive. To me, being in the bush is a form of meditation. The whole Track is my favourite section but I must admit to being very fond of sitting on top of Mount Cooke, watching the eagles circle the skinks, and just soaking it all in. I enjoy sharing my love of the Track with novice walkers so hope to see you out there soon.

Hi, I have been bitten by the hiking bug and enjoy anything from a leisurely jaunt to a multiple day hike through our wonderful bush. I have enjoyed walking and hiking interstate and overseas and feel so lucky to have the Bibbulmun Track as a fantastic escape to nature right on our doorstep. I’ve managed several end-to-ends and have enjoyed many stretches on multiple occasions. I have met a number of wonderful people along the way and hope to be able to experience walking with you soon.
