General Comments

I have been looking forward to doing this as a through hike for more than 20 years now and finally done it. It did not disappoint. This hike has been quite an adventure with all the highs and lows, ups and downs that can come with it. I met many wonderful people along the way on this hike and some I would call trail angels. Well done to all the volunteers and to the foundation itself for all the amazing work that you all do keeping this track maintained.

Food/Supplies Comments

I dehydrated most of my own meals the months prior to the trek and personally dropped off my supply boxes to the towns the week before starting. Although most of the towns had supplies it took the worry out of it. Having a cup of coffee was a bonus. Having protein bars to munch on during the day was a treat.

Favourite Section

Each section had its own feel and all were a great experience, however, the mid to southern end was awesome.

Highlights

Fauna & Flora. Hills and Valleys. Beaches. Mountains. Plains. Creeks and Rivers. The list goes on… Sore feet, aches and pains. All rewarded with a steak sandwich and a beer in town.

Personal Reactions

All was awesome. I really enjoyed it. I think I’m still on it. I have great memories.

Wildlife

Plenty of wildlife to see, including snakes.

Your Best Equipment

I found my Macpac stainless steel mug with foldable handles awesome. It kept the coffee (and soups) extra hot for an extra long time.

Your Worst Equipment

A phone that wouldn’t pick up the GPS to well. Not good when you’re not sure where you are :( . I used the Alltrails app, I found others using Guthook which seemed better.

Advice for Others

Take your time to do your own trek. Do not rush or you may well roll your ankle (twice) wink . Plan your meals, you will look forward to them. Even throw in a couple of Kit Kats for treats. Keep your weight to a minimum. Carrying extra will exhaust you, especially when hiking the hills or the “Rollercoaster” sections. Be considerate of others in the shelters. Good hiking poles are well worth it; (however you can find free hiking poles on the side of the track) wink  ENJOY…
