General Comments

Excellent track, generally well maintained by the amazing team of track volunteers. A world class through hike.

Food/Supplies Comments

Our own dehydrated food worked well, supplemented by commercial products for snacks etc. Food drops at towns were successful and our support team helped out as needed to good effect.

Favourite Section

Walpole to Albany. Such a glorious section with the Southern Ocean providing a regular backdrop and the unique and majestic tingle trees adding their drama to the scenery.

Highlights

Scenery, wildflowers (including the unsurpassed display of orchids) and the lovely people we met along the way.

Personal Reactions

It never ceases to impress me how much the human body can endure and still function reasonably well!

Wildlife

Loved seeing our native species in their natural habitat - kangaroos, emu, snakes and a plethora of colourful, noisy birds.

Your Best Equipment

1) Sea to Summit inflatable pillow - the best hiking pillow I’ve ever owned and
2) Crocs Swiftwater sandals - so comfortable and sturdy they enabled to walk 120km of the track in them when my hiking shoes let me down

Your Worst Equipment

My stomach - no matter how much dehydrated food and trail snacks I pumped into it, it simply wasn’t enough to satisfy its selfish needs!

Advice for Others

Plan well, use quality equipment, listen to the advice of experienced hikers and train appropriately for the distance, terrain and pack weight.
