General Comments
Thanks to the volunteers, to the DPAW staff and to the sponsors who keep this track in good shape. This is my second (sectional) E2E and it was just as much fun as the first.
Favourite Section
My favourite section is still Mt Chance to Giants because of the wonderful mix of Pingerup Plains, (wildflowers and wading), karri, granite bosses, ocean, beach, tingle trees.
Highlights
Walking largely alone but with wonderful friends from time to time—most of whom I’d met on the Bibbulmun or other tracks.
Personal Reactions
I’m happy to be alone at the end of the day when I reach the shelter but just as happy to share it with hikers because they tend to be pretty interesting people.
I’m concerned that climate change could lead to greater fire danger, loss of even more shelters and a shorter walking season.
Wildlife
My gut feeling is that there is less and less bird and animal life on the track than there was when I started hiking it 15 years ago. I hope I’m wrong.
Your Best Equipment
My Z Pack which is about 2 kg lighter than my previous pack. My Spot satellite device/EPIRB which lets my partner know I’ve arrived safely at the shelter.
Advice for Others
I’m really proud of the Bibbulmun Track because it’s free and well maintained. With the pitch-perfect minimalism of its campsites, it’s a wonderful asset to have in our backyard.
