General Comments

A memorable experience and a great way to celebrate turning 40. Can’t wait to get out and do more treks. Henry, my teddy bear and companion on my trip, also enjoyed the trip and made a great conversation starter, without even saying anything.

Food/Supplies Comments

I pre-made meals and arrange for a friend to post ahead, just topping up on extras at the track towns. All packages arrived safe and well and all the track towns were very welcoming and supportive.

Favourite Section

Favourite section was DRV to Pemberton. I loved the Donnelly river - the walking here was challenging but not too hard, and the scenery amazing. Marris are my favourite tree and there were plenty here. I also had this section almost entirely to myself, passing only 5 S-N hikers and a handful of snakes along the way and having the shelters all to myself.

Highlights

Meeting lots of amazing people along the way, especially Linda and Tony, who were walking the route with me at various stages from Dwellingup and welcomed me at Albany.

The ever-changing views and terrain - trees, sand dunes, hills, beaches, farms etc. Who would of thought you could see so much?

Being able to sing out loud and having no-one hear you except the birds and kangaroos!

Walking along the beaches in perfect conditions, with my bare feet in the sand and sea.

Close encounters with emus at Yabberup.

Personal Reactions

This was an amazing trip that gave me, for the first time in a long time, a chance to be at peace and time to think. A chance to re-think and re-capture my life.

Wildlife

13 snakes, including one very angry dugite, 1 large bull, 2 friendly emus at Yabberup, plus many more along the track, 1 very annoying native mouse running across my face at Blackwood, kangaroos, wallabies, wild hikers and lots of birds and insects.

Your Best Equipment

Walking poles and good insoles in my shoes. The poles saved me from many potentially dangerous slips, trips and falls.

Your Worst Equipment

Bad insoles in my shoes.
