General Comments
I walked roughly half the track South to North in 2018 and finished with year walking North to South. I had my husband, a wonderful friend, and my kids join me for some sections and I walked roughly half the track alone. It was one of the best things I have ever done and I enjoyed every moment! Western Australia continually blew me away with its beauty! I am very thankful to all those who created, and continue to care for and maintain the track.
Food/Supplies Comments
I sent dehydrated main meals to the trail towns and stocked up on breakfasts/snacks/lunches in the trail towns.
Favourite Section
I loved the variation in terrain and scenery but I was happiest among the tall trees - Valley of the Giants and the forests around Pemberton and Donnelly River Village.
Highlights
The beautiful trees and birds. The amazing people I met along the way.
Wildlife
The wildlife was a real highlight for me! Saw lots of snakes, kangaroos and cockatoos. Loved the Torbay Quenda. Particularly liked the wrens and small birds in the middle section. Accidentally trod on a well hidden dugite in the Pingerup Plains - we both freaked out but escaped unharmed.
Your Best Equipment
My trekking poles! The Guthooks App for those “Am I still on the trail?” moments.
Your Worst Equipment
I didn’t have any worst equipment but I did do a lot of equipment (pack, tent, sleeping mat) swaps between 2018 to 2019 to lighten my pack.
