General Comments

Had a ball, one of the best things I’ve done and I didn’t want it to end.

Food/Supplies Comments

I did a lot of dehydrating and preparing for my food supplies before driving up and making food drops in towns along the way. Buying some bits in town to help supplement my rations.

Favourite Section

Now that’s tricky. Probably the section between Albany and Kalamunda, that was a beautiful section..  :o)

Highlights

The swamps because there were less hills. :o)
The people along the way, so many laughs and fun chats.

Personal Reactions

Hmm, not sure what this means exactly.

Wildlife

Loads, but only one snake the whole way thanks to it being winter..

Your Best Equipment

My sandals..  Started wearing trail runners but due to poor weather I wore sandals with socks near the start saving the shoes for when in camp. Ended up doing most of the track in sandals.

My cheap little fold up umbrella, so handy when rain showers came, not having to get out the raincoat.

Oh and the Aarn pack, very comfy…

Your Worst Equipment

Hmm, my thermarest neo air. The plug fell out on the last morning, lucky it was the last morning. It was soo noisy when sleeping in my tent at night..  The noise got a little less over time and was ok by the end when sleeping on my groundsheet, but on the tent floor, ouch..  common problem.

Advice for Others

Just do it. You don’t need fancy gear, I met people out there doing E2E’s in thongs and jeans, people from 18 to 70 odd, people who were very unfit, people using mainly borrowed equipment who’d decided on a whim to do it with hardly any planning.

I met someone in the middle of winter who only had a cheap plastic tarp to wrap around himself as rain protection, and I met people with all the latest goretex pants and jackets.

So long as you have the essentials to keep warm, all you have to do is get to the hut at the end of the day. Easy, just get to that hut, then you can rest, eat, get dry, get warm and sleep. Then you get up in the morning and do it again. Before you know it, you’re fit and it’s become easier.

If you haven’t used an item in the first week, mail it back home you wont need it. Except of course your first aid, tent, emergency gear, etc..  But I met people out there carrying things like a tomahawk, and another guy with a hammer. Hmm not needed..
