General Comments
I am so grateful for the opportunity to walk the Bibbulmun Track - something that I’ve been wanting to do for a very long time. Thank you to everyone who made it possible.
I started in Albany on the 18th April but missed the Denmark to Peaceful Bay section (had to get new boots). I reached Kalamunda on the 12th June (day 56 since leaving Albany) and completed the 3 day Denmark to Peaceful Bay section 16th-18th June (day 62 since leaving Albany). 56 walking days in total.
Food/Supplies Comments
Before I started, I dropped off my resupply boxes in each of the track towns at the accommodation places where I would be staying.
My Mum was my support person who resupplied me between Dwellingup and Kalamunda.
Favourite Section
I loved all sections because they all had their own character.
I especially liked the coastal sections and karri forest.
Mt Clare to Long Point including Nuyts Wilderness Area (such diversity in landscapes in one day).
Favourite campsites: Mt Clare with the three guardian Tingle trees, Rame Head with the coastal view, and Helena in the Perth Hills.
Highlights
Meeting like-minded people to connect with.
The canoe crossing near Peaceful Bay.
The Perth Hills, the views along the coastal sections, the views from all the various hills and ‘mountains’.
Personal Reactions
Time for thinking, reflection and solitude.
Connecting with nature and being in the protective bubble of the Bibbulmun Track away from the stress and worries of civilisation.
It is hard to return to real-life after an end-to-end, but unfortunately I can’t avoid and ignore reality forever…
Wildlife
I stayed up all night at Blackwood shelter listening to the mice scurrying around and valiantly protecting my tent in case they decided to munch their way through.
Your Best Equipment
One Planet Goondie tent and sleeping bag.
Vasque Breeze hiking boots.
Fishing line and biner clips for hanging up my backpack and food bag out of the reach of night-time creatures.
Thermarest Prolite Plus mattress.
Arafura Tackle Frillneck hat.
Down jacket.
Leki Corklite hiking poles.
Bicarb powder and tea tree oil for deodorant.
Coconut oil for moisturising and massaging my feet.
Your Worst Equipment
Shewee - I’d practiced successfully at home but then when I tried it on the Track, I shewee’ed down my leg and into my pants, so did not try it again hahaha.
Advice for Others
Seize the moment and just do it!
Savour it, take as much time as you can, enjoy and appreciate the little things.
How does it get any better than this?! What else is possible?!
