- Start date: 9 April 2017
- Age When Completed: 23
- Direction Walked: South to North
General Comments
Longest walk ever done! Not physically difficult, but the length of the walk is the real challenge. I was very lucky with the weather, only 3-4 days of rain (drizzle). The nights were just a little bit cold from Balingup to Kalamunda.
Food/Supplies Comments
No food drops, only bought food in towns. A bit expensive, but it was OK. And I didn’t lose a single kg during the walk.
Favourite Section
Albany to Denmark and Walpole to Northcliffe.
Highlights
The karri forest with the Gloucester tree. Climbing the Gloucester tree is amazing! The Pingerup Plain and Lake Maringup. All by myself in the wilderness!!
Mt Cooke: first viewpoint after two weeks of hiking in the flat karri forest.
Personal Reactions
Enjoyed the remoteness of the Track. I was expecting a more solitary experience, but I was pleased to meet so many people all along the way.
Wildlife
Lots of snakes on coastal sections, kangaroos, wallabies, bandicoots, western quoll (chuditch?), possum, bush rats, wild pigs, kookaburras, cockatoos, various small birds, emus….
Your Best Equipment
Sleeping bag. Nights were getting colder and colder along the Track.
Your Worst Equipment
None.
Advice for Others
Use walking sticks.
