General Comments
Awesome trail. Well maintained. Good shelters, clean dunnies. Great first thru-hike (end-to ender).
Food/Supplies Comments
No laundry in Dwellingup! DRV minimal resupply, pricey.
Favourite Section
The entire southern coast.
Highlights
Reading Shel’s entries until she left the trail in Balingup. Fording the Murray river. Surviving a few over 40km days. Nearly daily rainbows along southern coast. Meeting good people all along the way.
Personal Reactions
Awe and gratitude.
Wildlife
Loved the roos and emus in DRV! The birds everywhere were incredible. Only saw one snake, a small dugite along a wooden walkway on the southern coast. Oh, and lots of drop bears!
Your Best Equipment
My ULA pack, dirty girl gaiters, crocs, and black diamond hiking poles.
Your Worst Equipment
My thermarest neoair xlite started slow-leaking a week in. Though my husband had the same one which survived the entire Appalachian Trail so I think this one was just a dud. Swapped it out for a Sea-to-Summit in Collie which was a little bit heavier, but just as comfy and way easier to blow up.
Advice for Others
You can do it… Just keep swimming! Wear your crocs through the inundated plains… your feet will thank you. Don’t carry the books, just the maps. Take pictures of the section summaries in the books and the elevation profiles on the maps to have as a quick-reference on your phone. Denmark would be a great place to zero if you need a break.
