- Direction Walked: North to South
General Comments
An excellent walk - variety of environments, variety of weather, amenities first class [shelters, toilets], maintenance great. Many thanks to Bib Track Foundation, DaPW, volunteers.
Food/Supplies Comments
I dehydrated most of my food, used post drops to locate parcels at all accommodation places. Most towns had reasonable range of food to “top up” what I posted.
Favourite Section
Hard to select 1 only - either side of Mt Cooke, Donnelly River Village to Balingup, Walpole to Peaceful Bay.
Highlights
The people I met, scenery - wild flowers, those amazing Kauris, Red Tingle trees, first sight of the ocean, pancakes & maple syrup , the regrowth - fascinating.
Personal Reactions
This trip my first following an aborted hike on Australian Alps Walking Track [helicopter rescue] - it gave me my “mojo” back. Some hard moments but they only made the good times better.
Wildlife
Birds - heard plenty, saw not as many, [red tail black cockatoos, blue wren, sea eagle], kangaroos, emus, 2 only snakes, a few lizards, 1 dead pig and a ‘squadron’ or two of mozzies.
Your Best Equipment
My Down jacket - I never realised it would get that cold.
Your Worst Equipment
My overpants (rain) - non breathable, too sweaty.
Advice for Others
Do your research, plan the trip but be prepared to be flexible. Utilise the various Information Centres in most towns - they are very helpful as is the BTF.
