Food/Supplies Comments
I am not very picky when it comes to food and having done other long distance trails I have developed a food system that works very well for me. Pre-made pasta and Trident noodles is very lightweight and is still rich in energy, protein etc. and in order to add a little flavour I add a bag of soup. This is something that you can find in any general store making it unnecessary to send parcels of food to any of the towns.
Favourite Section
I truly enjoyed entering the Donnelly region where the forest changed dramatically within only a few kilometres. Being surrounded by the massive Karri trees with all of its birdlife was greatly welcomed after a rather disappointing northern part.
The final days along the South Coast offered spectacular views over a majestic and wild Southern Ocean.
Highlights
Entering the Donnelly region where the mighty Karri trees suddenly surrounded me and hearing a choir of birdsong.
The final days along the South Coast where the track offered wonderful views over the roaring Southern Ocean.
Personal Reactions
The fact that the track is so wide that a car can easily drive on it in several places combined with all the warnings of potential dangers spoils the whole point of bush walking in my opinion. Of course I read up on what to watch out for etc. but on this track I felt like it was taken too far and the feeling of being on an adventure disappeared.
Wildlife
You would have to be truly unlucky not to see kangaroos while on this track as they are everywhere. However, if you’ve been unlucky in the beginning you will be sure to see them as well as emus walking about in Donnelly River Village.
Your Best Equipment
My favourite and best equipment would have to be my Aarn Peak Aspiration body-pack. Even after a 40+km day I would not have sore shoulders or a sore neck, only tired feet.
