General Comments

A fabulous track and a wonderful experience

Food/Supplies Comments

We precooked and dehydrated our meals and sent them ahead of ourselves. This worked very well and enabled us to have a tasty, nutritious and varied diet. Successfully cooking pizzas on our fuel stove at Noggerup was a culinary highlight!

Favourite Section

Very hard to pick a favourite section as there were so many that were fabulous. For sheer variety in a single day though, it is hard to surpass Giants to Rame Head. Tingle and karri forests, orchids and other stunning wildflowers, great views to the coast, Conspicuous Beach and Cliff, wind, rain and some sun!

Highlights

Once again, there were many highlights. Solitude; belly laughs; connecting to country, self and each other; disconnecting from work, regular routines, emails and the election campaign!; the simplicity of life. Wading across the Pingerup Plains made us wonder why it is that our parents told us not to walk through puddles with our shoes on. Reaching the karri forests (we had breakfast at karri gully that day); the southern ocean and its changing moods.

Personal Reactions

Leighton - I am very glad that we seized the opportunity to do an end-to-end walk. The experience of living in the present moment and going more slowly through life for a while was wonderful and refreshing.

Wildlife

We encountered more Spring snakes than we anticipated. The smallest one we met was by far the most entertaining as it repeatedly attacked a bright orange grasshopper right on the Track while remaining completely oblivious to our presence.

Your Best Equipment

My Exped Synmat mattress performed awesomely well. Compact, light and very comfortable for sleeping.

Your Worst Equipment

My rucksack’s waistband was not padded enough resulting in some novel approaches to temporarily solve the problem!

Advice for Others

The destination is less important than the journey. If we were to repeat the experience, we would agree on the time frame (we had 60 days this time) and not be too concerned about how far we got in that time. We would have built in more rest days along the way.
