General Comments
I would like to thank all the CALM officers, the Track Volleys and everybody in your office for the magnificent effort of marking the trail. The upkeep of the shelters and maps and book, it really helps to make the BT a great walk. I was fortunate to see it at its best.
Food/Supplies Comments
Bought my food and fuel as I went trough the small towns along the Track. Especially good were IGA Northcliffe, Pemberton, Walpole and Denmark.
Favourite Section
Mt Chance to Woolbales (incl Mt Pingerup) Woolbales to Long Point.
Highlights
From getting soaked from the massive flowering bushes overhanging the track to wading the swamps and creeks around Woolbales to the stunning coastal views at Mandalay Beach. A magnificent contrast over two days.
Personal Reactions
At last - The Southern Ocean!! and like many other at the Southern Terminal I walked 967kms!! Unbelievable (but inside feeling quite pleased I could do it).
Wildlife
Yourdamung campsite - sitting at the table having breakfast and watching the sunrise when 5 emus strolled past not more than 10 metres away - stopped and looked at me then slowly walked away - a magic moment.
Your Best Equipment
My sleeping bag!! Thermarest; one pot kitchen; fuel stove and thermal mug.
Your Worst Equipment
Didn’t have anything I didn’t need. Everything I took did it’s job.
Advice for Others
Be prepared to get wet at this time of year. Use white plastic bin liners in your pack and double wrap in plastic the essentials (s/bag-hut clothes etc) and maybe for the older generation use two walking poles (adjustable ones).
