General Comments

At the beginning of our hiking we thought we would never achieve the end, but we finally made it to the end. We lost toe nails, major blisters, sore feet, sore legs and falls. We are healthier and fitter and closer to nature and the environment. The wonderful scenery around the campsite has always been a welcoming sight after a long day’s walk.

Food/Supplies Comments

Very little as we had limited opportunities.

Favourite Section

Walpole - Denmark in November.

Highlights

Wild flowers, scenery walks very varied, coast - bush - rainforest all the one area.Being one with environment. Very lucky to live in a beautiful country and being healthy and able to complete the journey.

Personal Reactions

We had one bad experience. Heather and I started our walk at 7am from DRV. Our friends dropped our backpacks (by car) at the closest road junction to Boarding House campsite .There were 3 people at the junction and friends told them we would collect them later. Friends left - so did the campers with our backpacks. We walked 40 km that day. When we arrived at the arranged spot to collect our backpacks. GONE. Our clothing consisted of shorts and t-shirt - our food 1/2 sandwich and 2 bars between us.We spent the night around the fire under newspapers to keep warm. IT WAS VERY COLD. We walked 40 km to Karri Valley leaving at 5.45 am arriving at 4.30 pm. The Karri Valley resort were extremely helpful, kind and understanding about our ordeal. With fresh and new equipment we were back on the Track a few weeks later. Walpole to Denmark section renewed our faith in the kindness of the rural Australian attitude. At Parry inlet an elderly couple supplies us with a beautiful cooked breakfast/lunch. At Peaceful Bay a lady drove us to the Backpackers, where the manager fixed Heather’‘s broken boot. A lady drove us around Wilson Inlet. These very kind people have made our previous bad experience seem very minor.

Your Best Equipment

Husbands Les and Chas, Heather’s daughter, Gemma and friends Linda and Irene who have supported us along the way.

Your Worst Equipment

Bad feet - boots - blisters - lost all my toe nails.
