General Comments

Our idea for this adventure came after reading Bryson’s “Walk in the Woods”.  Originally planned to to take 5 years at about 200kms per year.  However knee problems saw a knee replacement in 2007 (no walking that year) and the 2nd one came in Jan 2008.  Then Sue’s husband had a major car accident in May 08 - so finally it took 7 years, 1 month and 2 days..  We could not have done this without the husbands’ providing support with drop off and pick ups.

Food/Supplies Comments

Because we only ever camped for 4 to 5 days, we were not needing to re-stock on the way.

Favourite Section

Anywhere through the forests - loved the tall timbers

Highlights

Arriving at the shelters for a rest and recharge.  Meeting other walkers from everywhere.  The amazing wildflowers - I now own several plant identification books. Finally waking up in the forest.  Early morning magic.

Personal Reactions

Loved all of it.  Some section were very challenging.  I had knee problems which built up over the years, finally needing two replacements.

Wildlife

Heaps of roos, emus and birdlife - especially black cockatoos and eagles in the northern section and little wrens and snakes in the southern section.

Your Best Equipment

My sticks and the guide books.

Your Worst Equipment

Original boots, I eventually bought a size larger.

Advice for Others

Get started.  Do what you can when you can.  Once you’re hooked the goal becomes the motivation - just keep going till you’ve done it all - no matter how long it takes.  It will still be there when you get back to it.  Make the time.
