General Comments

A great hike, with well-made, and maintained, huts, track and signage. Loved experiencing all the huts, sights and sharing stories with people. Through sweat, tears, tick bites, laughter, loony toons times, we walked 1004kms hand-in-hand. Very grateful for my partner, James, who makes the other half of Bush Babies.

Food/Supplies Comments

Had too much couscous, quinoa and vege proteins. 2-minute noodles are the best. sun-dried veges worked a charm. We’ll try dehydrate proper meals next time for ease and to save fuel.

Favourite Section

Gregory Brook to Schafer as Karri trees and rivers emerged and Walpole to Denmark which was stunning, dramatic, challenging.

Highlights

Reaching the ocean after 52 days! Kissing and hugging all the Karri trees. The bull pen after Balingup through private property which was terrifying and exhilarating to get through alive.

Personal Reactions

Lots of personal growth through finding compromises in the relationship every day and feeling at peace amongst the bush.

Wildlife

Wallabies always guided us back on the track when we felt lost. Big Bull Ants sparked interest in ants’ cannibalistic behaviours. Black Cockatoos always cawing near home (the hut).

Your Best Equipment

Osprey Ariel backpack and 2.5L water bladder, to constantly drink water.
My Sea-to-Summit -8 degree sleeping bag, bought in Collie as I was too cold.

Your Worst Equipment

Sea-to-Summit air mat - was too noisy and kept moving out from underneath me, so I mostly slept on the floor.

Advice for Others

Always take advantage of the good lunch, break and swim spots because you never know when the next one will be. Take it slow, absorb it all in.
