Food/Supplies Comments
Resupply was mostly pretty easy, I mailed boxes to Donnelly and Northcliffe, and purchased locally in the other towns.
Favourite Section
Donnelly to Pemberton
Highlights
The beautiful Karri trees! And my daily morning roo sightings… better than coffee.
Personal Reactions
Loved the trail overall, and that it walks thru all the towns, so no hitchhiking needed…almost (except for that weird gap in the trail in Denmark).
I noticed all the shelters are consistently spaced every 20km…except Grimwade to Blackwood which was 40km…that was a looong day. (And much of that area was private property, so no place to legally stop earlier). Did a shelter in the middle burn down?
Wildlife
6 echidnas, heaps of Roos, dozens of tiger snakes (14 in one day, near lake Maringup), a Dugite living in a hut near the ocean, wild emus (not at DRV), cockatoos, cookaburras, bogans, dolphins, a couple quendas at Torbay, some sort of small pig animal.
Your Best Equipment
My katabatic gear quilt, 20F temperature rating.
Your Worst Equipment
Underwear kept breaking. Ha!
Advice for Others
Don’t carry so much extra stuff, you don’t need expensive gear to go lighter weight. It’s a much better experience when your feet and shoulders are happy all day!
