General Comments
Great way to spend a month and half. Really enjoyed being able to slowly take in the bits of southwest wa I’ve only driven past before. Met so many wonderful people, all good for a chat.
Food/Supplies Comments
If you don’t have any specific dietary requirements and don’t mind forking out some cash, it’s very easy to resupply in the towns. Dehydrating my own food and doing drops would have been cheaper but I liked the convenience and flexibility of getting supplies along the way. I was stoveless so I’m not sure how the towns are for gas canisters.
Favourite Section
The south coast, between Albany and rame head.
Highlights
Boat harbour hut to rame head, sunset/sunrise at rame head, tingle trees, Donnelly river village. All of the wonderful people met.
Personal Reactions
Long distance hiking is something I’ve wanted to do since my first backpacking trip in scouts, but for one reason or another never managed to start. The bib is an excellent first one.
Wildlife
3 snakes, heaps of birds, possums, mice. Kangaroos and emus too.
Your Best Equipment
Macpac Pisa jacket. Only insulated layer I brought and It was all I needed. Also made a great pillow.
Your Worst Equipment
Cheap trekking poles
Advice for Others
If possible, leave your schedule open ended or at least give yourself an extra week from when you expect to finish. This will allow you to take time for injuries, spend more time at hut with cool people or take an extra day in town.
