Bibbulmun Track resources for teachers and youth leaders

We have a number of resources available for teachers and other leaders who are intending to take young people on the Bibbulmun Track. To request any of these resources please download the order form and send it to us. 

Teachers and youth leaders should also note that the Notice of Intent (NOI) should be completed before any overnight expeditions on any DEC tracks or trails are conducted.

Check the campsites which are going to be visited by groups in the near future.

Student presentations (Perth metro area only)

One of our trained presenters will come and visit your classroom.
  • 30 – 45 mins to suit students in class time.
  • Tailored to suit your particular focus. 
  • Topics include:
       - expedition planning, maps etc.
       - history of the Track
       - minimal impact guidelines (Leave No Trace)
       - food, equipment and overnight camping
       - first-aid and safety

Cost: from $110

Information manual for schools and youth groups 

All you need to know about the Bibbulmun Track in one convenient reference manual.

  • Assists teachers and leaders in the design and implementation of walks on the Bibbulmun Track.
  • Increases awareness of educators and students of environmental and safety concerns along the Track.
  • Almost 80 pages that provide valuable interpretive information and resources relating to:
          - walk leader’s guidelines, planning checklist and group safety procedures
          - NOI form
          - minimal impact and forest interpretation
          - equipment and food suggestions, equipment hire
          - DEC district contact numbers
          - group activities and other resources

Cost: $66.  (plus postage and packing) 

Education/familiarisation workshop for leaders/teachers   

Be prepared and confident. Have all your questions answered by our experienced guides. 

Topics include:    

  • Planning and leading expeditions
  • Correct protocols for informing DEC of the trip
  • Track conditions
  • Safety, first-aid and use of support vehicles

Minimum of 2 people per workshop.  Can be conducted in-house or on the Bibbulmun Track,  9am - 3pm.

Cost: $110pp (metro only- POA for other areas).

Equipment expo 

One of our experienced leaders will give you a practical demonstration and answer all your
questions about outdoor gear.

  • Allows teachers/leaders to become familiar with available hiking equipment.
  • Conducted at the Foundation’s city office during business hours.

Cost: $22. Duration: Approximately 1 hour.

Bibbulmun Track poster map

A must for any class that is preparing to go out, or has returned from an experience on the Track.

  • Colourful poster-size map of the entire Track showing approximate locations of campsites and towns.
  • Use it to mark the progression of sectional walks or give students ‘the big picture’.
  • Put it up in the classroom as a constant reminder of the achievement of walking the Track.
  • Not to be used for planning or navigational purposes. Expeditions should be planned using the appropriate Bibbulmun Track maps and/or guidebooks (go to our merchandise page).

Cost: $12 (plus $7 postage and packing)

‘Getting on Track’ video or DVD

A great way for your group to set realistic expectations of what walking the Track can be like.

  • This 35 minute educational video or DVD is a valuable aid even to those familiar with the Track.
  • Features advice on preparation, equipment, safety, Track facilities and minimal impact.

Cost:  $27.45 (inc GST).  (plus postage and packing)  

Food in a fuel stove

An introduction to cooking with a fuel stove for leaders. Come prepared to taste-test your creation!!

  • Allows teachers to become familiar with the art of preparing easy, quick and nutritious food.
  • Includes ingredients, recipes, menus and the use of fuel stoves.
  • Duration approximatley 2 hours.  Conducted at a Perth City location.

Check the Calendar of Events for dates. Cost: $45 (reduced cost for leaders).

Achievement certificates

Reward students with an attractive quality certificate featuring a map of the Track and a montage of photographs.

  • The certificate acknowledges the personal success and achievements on the Track of the student.
  • It can be over-printed with the student’s name and the distance or region walked.
  • Suitable for any length of walk.

Cost: $1 each (plus postage and packing)
