Overnight walk equipment checklist
This is a 'suggestion' list only - you may wish to add to, or subtract from it. If you do not have any of the major items, the Foundation has a hire service available for backpacks, sleeping bags with liners, sleeping mats, tents, stoves and Personal Locating Beacons (PLBs).
Go down the first column and mark those items you intend to take. Then mark them off in the second column as you pack them.
Download the overnight walk equipment checklist.
Watch a short video on how to wear a pack and correctly adjust the straps.

Equipment hire price list
Complete the hire booking form (not for Personal Locating Beacons - see below) and send it in to us with full hire payment. Bookings cannot be made over the phone or without payment. A bond is required at the time of collection of gear. See the booking form for details and hire conditions.
If you wish to hire a Personal Locating Beacon (PLB) please complete the PLB booking and disclaimer form and send it to us so that it arrives no less than 5 business days prior to hire. These new PLB's (operating on the new 406 MHz frequency) replace the 121.5MHz EPIRBs as of January 2009.
Please read the PLB Instructions for Use before you take the PLB on your outdoor adventure.
Note that the new PLB's are required to be registered to the user. All mandatory fields on the booking form must be completed before a hire will be approved. The Foundation will register the beacon for you. Read more.
Please book early! Our equipment is in high demand during the walking season (April to November). PLB's are often booked out months in advance.
All prices are based on a minimum period of hire of one week. Pick up is by arrangement between Monday and Friday, 9am- 4pm (the office closes at 4pm so you need to be there a little earlier) from our shop/office. All prices include GST. Conditions apply for school-priced hire.
Unfortunately we do not hire Satellite phones. However you can contact Rent-a-sat-phone. Check out their website.
