Package 1: Kalamunda (Perth Hills)
Located in the Perth hills, Kalamunda hosts the Bibbulmun Track Northern Terminus. Although just 30 minutes away from most Perth suburbs, it feels a world away from city life. The actual townsite of Kalamunda was approved in 1901. The name is derived from the Aboriginal words 'Cala' (home) and 'Munnda' (forest) - 'home in the forest'. At the turn of the century, the Premier of WA decided that the cities of Perth and Fremantle needed a sanatorium where people could escape from the bustling metropolis and enjoy fresh air and relaxation. Kalamunda was then established as a holiday town and from 1913, Kalamunda was advertised as a 'health resort'.
The area features:
- Heritage buildings
- First class restaurants
- 40 walking trails
- Rare orchids and spring flowers
- Lush valleys of Bickley and Carmel
- The Bickley and Carmel Wine Trail
- Famous monthly Kalamunda Markets featuring over 150 individual stalls
- Art studios, galleries and coffee shops
- The Zig Zag scenic drive
