Track Conditions - Bibbulmun Track Foundation

Walkers should always check the current Track conditions before embarking on a walk.

The Bibbulmun Track often has temporary diversions and realignments for various reasons, which can extend the distance to be walked on any day. If you come across such a variation, follow the trail markers as opposed to your map. The Track will soon rejoin the trail indicated on the map.

Temporary diversions are marked with white Waugal trail markers (black snake on white base) and there are normally hand written signs indicating the increased length of the diversion and the dates applicable.

If a campsite is closed then a temporary campsite will be provided, with a temporary toilet and water tank only. As there are no shelters at these campsites, walkers will need to use their tents.

On the south coast, the Track crosses a number of inlets. Often these inlets are opened (usually by the Water Corporation to lower the level of the inlet) and flowing very rapidly. Walkers must sometimes follow lengthy diversions or find alternative sections to walk.

For a full report on the current Bibbulmun Track conditions, see the Department of Environment and Conservation (DEC) Bibbulmun Track webpage. If for any reason you cannot access the DEC webpage call the applicable DEC district office directly.

Just a Reminder

Please remember that the Bibbulmun Track is a walking track only. No wheeled vehicles, including trolleys, wheelbarrows, prams and bikes should be on the Track. Please help to preserve the Track and the environment by keeping to ‘boots only’.

Dieback and Bibbulmun Track Access

Please help stop the spread of Dieback which is killing our forests.  If there is no red or green car on the road shown on the Bibbulmun Track Map, then you are not permitted to drive on that road. You may be prosecuted if your vehicle is found in Disease Risk Areas - read your map carefully. If you have any doubts contact us. Note that green cars mean that you must walk to the Track from an access road.

People are often not aware that they are in DRA. As a guide (but not limited to) check the table on our Track Conditions - Diversions and Other Impacts page. Remember, no red/green car = no access.

Total fire ban

A total fire ban is usually in place on the entire Perth Hills District section of the Track each year from the start of summer to mid April. This means that no fires are to be lit from the Northern Terminus in Kalamunda through to the Harvey - Quindanning Road (south of Dwellingup) (Hewett's Hill Campsite to Dookanelly Campsite). All walkers must carry their fuel stoves to cook meals when staying at these campsites during the fire ban season.
