General Comments
I did not put my backpack on till I left Albany because I knew I wouldn’t believe I could “do it”! I cried as I walked off and wavered under the weight. After 10 km I knew I could “do it”! I talked myself to the end, one day at a time. From zero fitness to track fit it got better & better.
Food/Supplies Comments
We ate simply and lost weight till Collie. Added more into our diet and kept weight for the last stretch. Main meal was Back Country dried packs - 55 of them! Reward was chocolate every night!
Favourite Section
Boat Harbour to Peaceful Bay. My never ending journey but the most varied and interesting day. Most challenging.
Highlights
Finding our way Blackwood Campsite through the destroyed bushland. And the view and sunset. Taking the 6000 photos and capturing the walk.
Personal Reactions
Amazed and proud that I was able to achieve the walk. Pleased that I was able to support my husband and enjoy the journey together (his dream). Lovely to talk and learn from others.
Wildlife
Mouse trapped in a zip plastic bag Wallabies and roos just sitting and watching you. 7 tiger snakes - on the watch the whole way. Dolphins surfing in the sea.
Your Best Equipment
Lightweight ASICS gym-shoes. Our little cooking pot that boiled all our water for our meals and cuppas on our gas burner.
Your Worst Equipment
Water bottles hanging off an army belt - but it was handy and 2 litres were always drunk.
Advice for Others
Take a friend. Travel light. Go slow! Take Fixamol for all cuts and scratches and sore foot spots. No aches or blisters of “puffing"if you take your time.
