General Comments

I enjoyed my Bibbulmun experience immensely. The vision and drive of the founders, the efforts of all volunteers, who maintain the excellent facilities and keep the Track open, have my unbounded appreciation.

Food/Supplies Comments

Cracked pepper and parmesan cheese became favoured addition to dehydrated meals. I was never hungry but still lost 10kg.

Favourite Section

The open schlerophyll forests and the sand dune areas.

Highlights

The vastly different ecosystems were amazing, but the highlight was the floral diversity which the sough west is noted for. I photographed >45 orchids, dozens of fungi and many different sundews, all were spectacular.

Personal Reactions

I enjoyed the challenge and was very excited about finishing. It was also a great surprise to find Gwen at the terminus when we waked into Albany. Whist she was there on other business, not many walkers can claim such and “official” welcome. The photos of this occasion has already been published in the Bib Track News.

Wildlife

Fauna diversity was lo: a few emus were heard crashing through the bush, a few amphibians were seen (tens of thousands were heard at night) a few macropods in the southern dunes, an occasional possum or bandicout, some blue tongue lizards and a multitude of reptiles down south when the weather warmed up.

Your Best Equipment

My camera which fortuitously had an amazing macro function.

Your Worst Equipment

Not taking a windbreak for my gas cooker - all else good.

Advice for Others

Extensive planning/advice from experienced walkers is a must to make the trip go smoothly - ours did!
