General Comments
The track was a fascinating and challenging journey. I literally walked myself fit - and rather thinner. I recommend it highly to people who have poor luck with diets. It was generally well maintained and easy to follow.
Food/Supplies Comments
Our highlight each day was a break mid-morning which we called ‘chocolate o’clock’ - we carried one bar each for every day.
Favourite Section
Least favourite Mount Chance to Woolbales. Ok, whose idea was it to run the track through 20 kms of swamp?
Highlights
Balingup was the most charming “town” I’ve ever visited. I would love to live in that haven of cheerful serenity! Walking away would have been difficult except that may canteen was filled with wine.
Personal Reactions
I’ve never had so much time to think! To finish was an amazing confidence boost - I felt proud and indestructable.
Wildlife
Birds galore. Every kind of frog (does one scream), bandicoot & woylie (which we hand fed) and some big dugites on the coast.
Your Best Equipment
Scrubbing brush, just try cleaning a fry-pan without one.
Your Worst Equipment
Waterproof boots - they aren’t, no matter what they say, so don’t waste your money.
Advice for Others
Have a lie-in! We noticed many walkers dragging themselves out into the pre-dawn rain - for what? So they can arrive before 11am and eyeball each other for 6 hours. Sleep late - leave when the weather improves and arrive for dinner and a sunset - perfect.
