- Start date: 3 September 2007
- Age When Completed: 57
- Direction Walked: North to South
General Comments
A well signed, well maintained Track. The shelters were excellent too. With the wettest spring for 4 years, the wild flowers were spectacular. The frog population tripled, but so did the Tiger snakes.
Food/Supplies Comments
I recommend having more than 4 food drops. As 10 kg weight for food makes a very heavy load for many days.
Favourite Section
Mt Chance to Mt Clare - for its isolation.
Highlights
Walking and sleeping for 3 days without seeing another person or hearing sounds of cars or planes. Just absorbing and being absorbed by nature, 10 campsites to myself in the southern section.
Personal Reactions
The hardest part was to sleep for 9/10/11 hours when I was used to sleeping 6.
Wildlife
Echidna, emu, tiger snakes, roo’s wallabies, possums, frogs, tadpoles (and they were huge), red tailed black cockatoos
Your Best Equipment
Camelbak water reservoir - better than bottles.
Your Worst Equipment
None - as I checked everything out during my 5 months of training.
Advice for Others
Set flexible goals, train with your equipment, always write the number of days to reach your destination in the log book at each campsite, it helps to remind yourself, and keep a check on your own progress.
