The Spirit of the Bibbulmun – The Jim Freeman Award
This award is given each year to the team that not only cares for the environment but has a mutual respect and care for each other and other teams. During the course of the Challenge, all teams are watched very carefully and this award is given irrespective of scores and team performance in activities. We are proud to announce that this year’s Spirit of the Bibbulmun Award was given to WestOne (2) – the Wilh-ma’s. Well done!
Many thanks to all you helped to make the Challenge and the Awards Night a huge success. In addition to the above sponsors who donated prizes, thank you also to
• The Red Cross WA for the use of “Resus Annie” during the Challenge
• Oranje Tractor Wines for donating the wine
• Comestibles for the use of Catering equipment for the Awards night
Special thanks must go to sponsor Mountain Designs who without their ongoing generous support the Bibbulmun Team Challenge would not be as successful as what it is.
Finally, thank you to all the organisations and individuals that participated in this year's Challenge. It is champions like you who help the Bibbulmun Track Foundation keep the spirit of the Bibbulmun Track alive! We hope to see you in teams again next year. Registrations for 2007 open in March.
Thanks also to Jim Freeman for his poem. Download the poem!

First Heat Results
Congratulations on PSN Water for winning the first heat for 2006! It was a close battle and placings changed during the heat. The first day was quite wet and it semmed that spirits may have been dampened. However it wasn't long before the sun started to shine and teams got into the spirit of the event.
Some interessting situations came about involving the use of a plastic bag in a tent by one of the team members! We discovered some amazing sculptors and some really good mimers, but best of all was the simple brute strength of Doug from WestOne who broke away fromt he shackles of restraint and went for gold bringing his team in to a very close second.
Well done to all four teams: PSN Water, WestOne-one, WestOne-two (The Wilh-ma's) and the independents (4Play).
Here is an account of the heat according to the Wilh-ma's.
Rain flowed freely on day one and all we wanted was some sun.
Toilet seat up and open door, toilet etiquette was quite poor.
Team Challenge lost one by one, however crossings we did won.
Johnny Howard hid in the pack, but alas we had to bring him back.
The worst was rain in my pack, and the aches in my legs and back.
Finding a toilet in the bush and having tailgaters behind me push.
But the best for me above all else was getting the gold flag despite my pulse
Thanks to Doug and Phil from WestOne and Steve Sertis for making it fun!
The four day Team Challenge brought out the worst and best, and now we deserve a beer and a rest!
Second Heat Results
Congratulations on the International Communist Conspiracy (AngloGold - 2) for winning the second heat for 2006! It was a very close battle with only 15 points between first and second place and 30 points between third and fourth! Once again placings changed through the heat. The first day was rather warm and the last hill on the first day seemed to drain the energy of some.
Activities were won and lost and some teams were shot down more than others! The cooler weather on Sunday was great, but people were still dropping like flies until 10am on the last day.

Well done to all four teams: The International Communist Conspiracy (AngloGold - 2), the DAGSS (Newmont), Boddington Gold Mine and the Progressive Blisters (AngloGold - 1).
Here is a partial account of the heat according to the DAGSS.
All the horror stories (blisters, sore bodies, exhaustion, bad hygiene - still to be decided) did not eventuate. We actually found a multitude of positives come out of the journey. We came to experience the Track and found the biggest reward was the interaction with each other. Jim had a story or poem about everything, Steve was always organising and John was constantly blowing his whistle! Muffiin, we went four days without knowing your name, and Tammy was all about getting to the pub. Mic or Andrew - an identity crisis - you tried to get commitment to the party. Dianna was the quiet achiever. Derek was unique in his own way, and Hamish and Ross with the white shirt were also quiet achievers. Jenny, we know you wanted to be on our team! Bruce despite wardrobe problems soldiered on and Shorrelle was lovely. AJ was the most determined on the gold flag, and Ben was always the last to put the pack on. It was the best of times, it was the worst of times!

The next heat starts on Thursday 2nd November where the reigning champions, Pitcher Partners, attempt to keep the two National Bank teams and PPB/Checkside from taking the flag!
Third Heat Results
Well done to the PPB/Checkside team for winning the third heat. PPB/Checkside, the only all-girl team in this heat, got it together very early and managed to stay in front for the entire four days. However they only just got there in the end, with the second team - Crouching Tiger (NAB - 1) - coming in only 5 points behind them - a very close finish indeed!! In third place were the second NAB team - Hidden Dragon followed by last year's champions, Pitcher Partners. What a competitive heat! Placements for second, third and fourth place changed throughout the heat. What a fine effort by all teams!
Here is Crouching Tiger's account of the four days.
We don't know what we were told,
Crouching Tiger, team of gold.
Walking for miles in the searing heat,
fixomul for blistered feet.
Steve and Di and Jim were great,
walked along at a cracking rate.
Day 2 nearly killed us all,
all in all we had a ball.
Toilets stunk really bad,
smelled so bad it makes us sad!
Sleeping mats on rock hard ground,
ticks and roo poo all around!
Pasta meals now make us sick,
all our blood, sucked by ticks!
Matt ran off without the cord,
but overall, we weren't bored!
Hike again, not too soon,
maybe during a blue moon.
All we have to say right now,
its time for us to take a bow!
Sound of 1, 2
Sound of 3, 4
Sound of 1, 2.....1, 2
.......3, 4!
The final heat starts on Thursday followed by the announcement of the Challenge Champions 2006 at the Awards Night. Stay tuned!
Last Heat Results
Congratulations to the Honey Possums (Dept of Environment and Conservation) for winning the last heat of the 2006 Team Challenge. Each team battled hard to win activities and climb to the top of the score board. Scores were close until day three where the Honey Possums charged ahead leaving PricewaterhouseCoopers, BankWest and Geraldton Grammar School scrambling for second, third and fourth places. In the end, after some cool and wet weather, BankWest came in second, PWC third and Geraldton Grammar in a gracious fourth. Well done to all teams.
Here is an account of the heat according to 'No Interest' -BankWest:
5am be there or beware, a lady in red was already dead.
On the bus not a lot of fuss...more suss.
Next stop just off the Track no turning back, but time to test the pack.
Photo shoot and time to smile... then it's hell for the next 10 miles.
Day one they said was fun.... their packs obviously didn't weigh a ton!
White Horse Hill...time to erect a tent...mmm we'll get better
Games, games and Einstein test... and for a change we were the best.
Day one was over!
Up at dawn, time to cook or go hungry.
We were away at seven and yes your left over porridge travels with you.
On the Track, not only watching your back... a murderer lurks around us.
The day went past and we did not fast as we won in spite of red, and Tim took Andrew to bed.
Though it must have been a bore as not two minutes later we heard Andrew snore.
Now its the next day and Damien could go either way.
Cause its been a long walk but the reaming cannot be baulked.
love was in the air and Andrew his heart did bear.
The team is all hard core but this was the only way we could score.
Then it was time to cook, Tim and Andre ignored the cook book.
Thanks to Backpackers Delight, we had a meal to excite.
2 part resin, 1 part coal and 1 part poo, apparently their knife could cut through.
The last day four, we are not so sore.
We did not make much money and we did not find losing funny!
We did well on the boat and managed to keep afloat.
The cord was additional pain, Damien hung his head in shame.
Now here we sit doing our bit,
It's time to say goodbye,
'Cause its late and we must fly.
I know you think we are *#@!*^$
But we are only bankers!
