North Bannister to Brookton Hwy

The walkers reached Brookton Highway on Tuesday 9th September after leaving North Bannister on Saturday 6th September.

After collecting our food drop at Wearne Rd, we proceeded toward Gringer Creek Campsite.  The forest was still quite bare after the wildfire a few years ago.

The welcome at Gringer Creek was certainly unexpected. Gwen and Chris brought in a very yummy afternoon tea (yep, our second afternoon tea for the day!).

Mike was defintely excited by the other goodies brought in by the new sectional walkers! Especially when we had heard that the North Bannister roadhouse and tavern was closed for renovations.

And Mike wasn't the only one with a great big smile on his face!!

Of course we all had to be bright and ready to vote on Saturday - election day. The crew from Boddington Gold Mine provided a bus to take us into Boddington to vote and clean out the local IGA!

BGM also put on a lunch for us at Cafe Wandoo - it kinda breaks up the monotony of walking really!! Many thanks to BGM for the afternoon in Boddington which also included a tour of the mine site.

The Track toward Nerang Campsite was alive with the colour of the Prickly Moses.

There wasn't much time to get settle at Nerang Campsite after our 'day out' in Boddington, but the sky was clear and we knew we were in for a cold night... and it was... many of us had ice on the outside and inside of our tent fly.

There are many ways to warm up the muscles out on Track and the one-legged bird dance is just one of those. Tanya was often told to put that leg back and sit down.

Our approach toward Mt Cooke was a magnificent display of colour.

The ascent of Mt Cooke also provided lovely views and more wildflowers. We had lunch on the northern side so that all we had to do after lunch was decend to the campsite. We said goodbye to Bev that evening who was suffering from a bad chest cold.

We also said goodbye to Lim, who had a bit too much sun on the summit of Mt Cuthbert. His good friend Bob also accompanied him.  The next day we crossed the Canning River en route to the Brookton Highway.

We skipped Canning Campsite to keep to our schedule of arriving in Kalamunda on September 13 - but it was a great place to have lunch. In fact from now on we will visit two campsites a day. We stay at Brookton, Beraking, Helena and Hewett's Hill Campsites and skip Mt Dale, Waalegh and Ball Creek Campsites.

Our Brookton Highway food drop was delivered by Charmaine - thank you! Of course our regular saints, Stuart and Mary put on afternoon tea coupled with a shared tub of water to cool the feet - how festy is that!
