Denmark to Peaceful Bay

The walkers reached Peaceful Bay at 4pm on Thursday 24th July after leaving Denmark on Tuesday 22 July.

A new group of sectional walkers joined us at Denmark for the next three days.

Here's our story from Denmark to Peaceful Bay.

Day seven, leaving Denmark, was quite cold indeed and it took us more than the first kilometre to warm up. We were lucky to be joined by locals at the trail head and some walked with us as far as the other side of Mt Hallowell. It was great to have them along. Thank you for the warm send off.

All the walkers welcomed a lovely sunny day to walk to William Bay campsite. The views from the lookout rock were made better with a cuppa!

The next day brought the wet weather and the long walk along Mazoletti beach. The sand was firm in most places. We crossed not long after low tide.

We crossed the Parry Inlet (waist deep) and the underwear was paraded once again. The water was clear but not that cold, and little current but the crossing quick and easy.

We were absolutely blessed to find that Eunice and Taffy - the caretakers at Parry's Beach Caravan Park - saw us coming in the rain and put the billy on. A hot cuppa and freshly baked carrot cake was exactly what we needed. None of us focussed on the next 12km to Boat Harbour campsite whilst sheltered under the verandah of the caretaker's house enjoying their fantastic but unexpected hospitality.

The showers eased a little as we arrived into camp - the sun came out just long enough to warm us a little. We arrived in camp a 2.30pm after starting at 7am. We also met our first southbound trekker on the Track. Boat Harbour campsite is nested in the hillside of Boat Harbour. It has a great view to the harbour from the nearby ridge.

The next day was our longest so far - 24km from Boat Harbour to Peaceful Bay. Our day started with rain but it eased up as we progressed. Apart from being a long day, we had three beach walks, our final inlet crossing (Irwin Inlet - with extra canoes kindly supplied by DEC Walpole - thank you so much!), and plenty of sand dunes and hills. The inlet crossing went without a hitch - very little wind and a weak current helped the walkers paddle across easily.

The last creek into Peaceful Bay caught us by surprise! The creek and much of the Track following it was about knee deep in cold water. We were greeted at the Peaceful Bay Hall by Ailcie and Delia with a hot cuppa, freshly baked scones, biscuits and a special 60th birthday cake for Alan (one of our end-to-end walkers).

We merrily sang Alan a happy birthday tune - a good effort as most of us were pretty weary! Many thanks to Peaceful Bay for their warm welcome. Happy 60th Alan!

We enjoyed a great night at our various places of accommodation for the night and are looking forward to only a 12.4km day to Rame Head tomorrow - a great relief after three fairly hard days from Denmark.

See you in Walpole! Great to hear that almost 200 walkers are participating in the virtual walk!!
