Donnelly River Village to Balingup

The walkers reached Balingup on Tuesday 19th August after leaving Donnelly River Village on Sunday 17th August.

Here is their story so far...

We intended that Donnelly River Village be a very casual, fun and relaxed event... and it was. It was great to catch up with a big crowd of family, friends, Bibbulmun Track Foundation members and volunteers. The band, One Foot In The Groove, did an amazing job of getting everyone onto the dance floor and letting their hair down!

Charlie and Lisa from Yoho Pizza delivered a steady stream of yummy organic pizzas out of the mobile woodfired oven.

A number of walkers joined us as we departed Donnelly River Village and even a special walking stick tunnel to walk through.

Thanks to everyone who came along to help us celebrate the half-way point. We didn't do a head count but we estimate that over 150 people attended the Saturday night party.

It wasn't long before we had another celebration. Gabriele, one of our 10th Anniversary end-to-end walkers actually became an end-to-ender at Karri Gully, having walked the northern section before - well done Gabriele!!!

When we reached Blackwood campsite, we knew it was going to be a rather sad occasion. Genevieve, who has come from France to join us, ends her walk here in Balingup after starting with us from Albany, all those many days and kilometres ago! Thanks to Andrew from the Balingup Backpackers, bringing a chocolate cake to Blackwood campsite, we celebrated once more and wished Genevieve all the best.

The wildflowers are starting to bloom and we have had the best display of wattle so far as we walked towards Balingup.

The welcome in Balingup was absolutely fantastic. Many of the kids and locals were already dressed in their medieval costumes in preparation for the Medieval Carnivale starting here at the weekend. Thanks so much for such a warm and colourful welcome.

Well, as there is no rest day here in Balingup, we head off for the next leg of our journey Wednesday.
